Natalie Johansen, the only daughter of the Johansen's, dreads Rome and its history. After two days of moving in to their new home, her parents unpacks the last box of items and tries to convince her to come along with them to sightsee Rome. Natalie immediately declines and is then given a book to read instead, The Dark Roman Portal. That day, Natalie Johansen goes out for a stroll and takes her book along to read. An awkward thing suddenly occurs. She dissappears into the world of ancient Rome with her book by falling into the flickering image of the Roman streets. Now she is lost forever in history in the year 50 BC and somehow must find a way to come back. Strangely, instead of Rome being itself, the skies have turned pure black, night and day. As Natalie searches for a way home in the darkness, she learns, discovers, and starts to appreciate Rome, of course, without a sun. If only she could get home....
