Welcome, fair travellers, to Germania. The great feast of Frauja Ingaz and other Gold Launch festivities took place here in October 2002. But feel free to browse the posts made here as part of those festivities. |

In the middle of the forest a clearing opens upon the Roman Empire's newest town and farest civilised outpost. This is Colonia Augustorum, planned to be the first of many such towns and cities in the new Roman province of Germania Magna. The town is less than nine years old, yet already it has a magnificent stone basilica, a wide forum and the recently unveiled gilt bronze equestrian statue of the Emperor Augustus.
Of course, the local tribes are still not used to living in towns, and most of the inhabitants are Roman colonists: settlers, traders, retired soldiers, civil servants - some with Germanic wives and children. The locals come here to trade though, and when race day co-incides with market day, the new town bustles with activity and buzzes with conversation in Latin, Greek, Gallic and the Germanic dialects.
The settlers dismiss any talk of uprisings by the natives, but soldiers from the nearby garrison camp still watch the woods carefully. This is the edge of civilisation after all.
