To Rome the Marcomannic Wars were an attempt by the Marcomanni and their allies to raid over the frontier into the Empire, but its now clear that these campaigns were motivated by great unrest and movement deep inside Germania, with tribal alliances and leagues rising and falling as far away as the Baltic.
