Quid Novi? What's New in Rome
Rome is known as 'the Eternal City' and in that spirit the Roman World here in AW continues to thrive. We have passed the 6,000 member line and the Roman World counts 61 groups and we're still going strong. Information on some of the newest groups can be found elsewhere on this page. I would like to wish all Roman citizens a fine summer and if you're going to take a vacation, let it be a good one!
Some of the Newest of Groups in the Roman World
Hollywood on the Tiber!:
Love 'em or hate 'em, Sword and Sandal epics and movies are a part of modern cinematic culture. Come talk about your favorite Cleopatra, or ridicule all the historical mistakes you saw! Either way, bring the popcorn and be ready for a good show!
Sons of Venus:
Ever wondered what it would be like to take a plane trip to the Roman Empire? Come to the group Sons of Venus, where we discuss alternate history and What If? scenarios based on Roman history. If you like good theoretical discussion, we're your group!
I, Claudius:
'I, Claudius' is a role play group dedicated to exploring the Julio-Claudian time period in general and the events in the life of Claudius in particular. Using the books I, Claudius and Claudius the God by Robert Graves as a starting point, the group explores fictional events that may well have occurred in the character’s lives, as well as actual events from different perspectives.
The Satyricon Society:
A group in the Roman World, dedicated to the study of and story writing related to the 'Satyricon', the ancient novel by Petronius and other areas within the Latin Literature.
The Garden of Philodemus:
Herculaneum, circa 40 BCE. At the villa Pisonis the Epicurean School of Philodemus of Gadara is an informal gathering place for those who enjoy discussing philosophy, literature, general politics, the nature of things and how to live better. This being a philosophy school, speculations are welcome; they must however be kept in context, so that we can discuss how a philosophical or scientific doctrine can influence artists, but cannot discuss the paintings of Picasso; we can discuss preemptive warfare and POW treatment but not Iraq or Guantanamo.

Roman Ads and Information
Roman Neighborhood Info
During the last Springfest, Rome has produced a good amount of very nice and interesting tours and quizzes. The best of these have been added to the various Roman Neighborhoods, which has been considered a good idea by many: thus, we won't 'lose' these beautiful pieces of work by some of our finest weavers and workers in the pile of posts of the Roman World. We will continue doing this in the future, thus adding many valuable pieces of work and information to our neighborhoods. However, this doesn't mean that the neighborhood pages of the Roman World have been filled or are being filled with tours and quizzes! We still need people working on the vast amounts of pages which form the Roman Empire...Elsewere in this Roman Neighborhoods paragraph, you can find the neighborhood list showing who is doing what and what has already been done. There is much much more to do, so come on, you city builders, crank up your efforts and create a beautiful city or place in the Roman World! It's your Roman Neighborhood World!
For an update on the Roman Hoods Report, check this link. Would you like to be a Roman Neighborhood or city builder? Please, check one of the provinces that still need to be worked on and contact your Roman Scribe Tanaquil Sergius! For a special Tour of the Roman Neighborhoods, see: Iter, Caesar's Journey by Calpurnia Caesar, Cyhiraeth Volcae and Senex Caecilius!
'Gems of Rome'
As in other worlds, there is now under way a hunt for the Gems of the Roman World, meaning past events, festivals, contests, and other creations, which are too good to be lost under the zillion posts that have since been made. Calpurnia Caesar, who has taken the garb of Diana the huntress, makes an appeal to all Romans (and visiting barbarians) to let her know if they remember, or find, any such treasures that in your opinion would classify as Gems. Don't sleep on it, join the hunt! You'll be credited for your findings :-)
