Wormwood - Beyond Absinthe
Wormwood, in the many-branched Artemesia family, is probably best know as an ingredient of Absinthe, an eerily colored green drink that has a reputation for causing hallucinations. Ironically, wormwood has been used for ages as a remedy for headaches.
It got its name from being used as a medicine to drive worms out from animals and people. It is also used generally to drive away the nasties. A pouch of wormwood is a strong protector, whether you carry it on your person, hang it somewhere in your house, or even hang it from the rearview mirror of your car. Burn it, with a pinch of mugwort which is also an Artemesia, to attract good spirits. Wormwood is also used to summon, invoke, or pass between the worlds. Throw it into the fire on Samhain to protect yourself against roving ghosts. |
