CYOA - Adventure! pg. 7

You have chosen to go to Vinland.
Ahhh, Vinland sounds like an excellent place to explore! From the old stories it sounds like heaven. Leif Eriksson founded Vinland, but somehow no one knows precisely where it is - so searching for it in the west shall be a grand adventure indeed. The crew is not amused by your excitement and your jabbering on and on about how wonderful the settlements at Vinland are - with farms, animals, and WOMEN! Heck, they could even support blacksmithing! WOO HOO! But they are not impressed and go on with preparing the ship to set sail. Sheesh - guess that is what you get, even if you did butter them up with spirits last night! So off you go, sailing and getting sick as all get out for the first few days. Now this amuses the crew, and their attitude toward you does soften as the days go by, your stories making the voyage easier. In fact, you start making friends with one crewmember named Sven, who actually begins to look forward to finding Vinland. You and Sven talk about what it would be like to find the settlement and what else there might be to see once you get there. The rest of the crew shake their heads each time the two of you start chattering, but you don't care, as at least you have one person you can talk to now. One night, Sven sits with you in your cosy burrow in the stern, and you share some food and drink and start to dream about seeing Vinland soon. All of a sudden, there is a tremendous crash and you see a crack forming in the bow of the ship. Men rush everywhere, there is water gushing into the ship and you see one man washed overboard. Screaming and yelling, the Captain is ordering the men to dump as much of the provisions as they can. You can't believe your eyes, the ship is sinking! You start tossing over anything you can grab but to no avail. The ship flounders and you are in dark, freezing waters. Soon you are numb...and the adventure ends.
