Sun-Infused Calendula Healing Salve
1/4 cup dried calendula flowers
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/8 cup grated beeswax 40 drops lavender essential oil Put dried flowers into pint sized canning jar. Add oil and stir well. Cover with tight lid and set on sunny windowsill. When the oil turns a deep golden color, usually in about 2 weeks, strain the oil through several layers of cheesecloth. Then combine the oil with grated beeswax in a small, heavy saucepan. Heat gently to melt wax. Add lavender oil. Pour mixture into widemouth glass jars, let cool and cover with lid. Store in a cool, dark place and it will be good for a year. Calendula salve is good for all skin ailments, from chapped lips and minor burns, cuts and bruises to diaper rash and venous leg ulcers. And by the way, Calendula is the Herb of the Year for 2008! |
